Look for a table set-up in the grassy area out front the bathroom building. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the walk like out to the tidepool area?\n\n\n\n\nCurrently\, there is a nice accumulation of sand from the beach access all the way to the tidepool area. Interpretive Guides will lead participants around the front of Maxwell Point. There is access through a man-made tunnel providing return access even during high tide. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat animals will we get to see?\n\n\n\n\nEach tidepool tour offers a different mix of wild animals to observe. Species common in this area include ochre sea stars\, granular claw crabs\, acorn barnacles\, sea lemon nudibranchs\, oyster catchers\, purple sea urchins\, six-rayed stars\, tar spot sea cucumbers\, western gulls\, & giant green anemones.

SUMMARY:Salt Marsh Tour
DESCRIPTION:Salt Marsh Ecology Walk along Netarts Bay: learn about how plants survive in a salty world! \nJoin Friends of Netarts Bay – Watershed\, Estuary\, Beach\, and Sea (WEBS) for a FREE event including a presentation and guided tour along the salt marsh at the southern end of Netarts Bay. Learn about the plants and animals in this unique habitat and the importance of this environment from the forest to the water’s edge. Discover how plants survive in a salty world and explore vegetation succession from the bay to the dunes. \nThis program includes two parts: a presentation followed by a walking tour. \nSALT MARSH PRESENTATION \nThis presentation will review salt marsh habitats and give an overview of the common plants found in these areas and how they are adapted to survive in these salty locations. \nSALT MARSH WALK \nAfter the presentation\, explore the salt marsh with biologist and past WEBS board member\, Jim Young. This field-based walking tour includes an easy to moderate 1.5 to 3-mile hike through muddy\, wet sand\, and loose sand areas. Trails may be covered by brush. This program is best suited for participants 12 years and older who are comfortable with walking in these environments. \nParticipants will need to provide transportation between locations and may need to purchase a day-use permit at the state park. Participants should wear long pants\, closed-toe shoes\, or boots (no flip-flops\, please\, and expect your feet to get muddy) for this adventure. At times\, the tour areas will have a moderate number of mosquitos. WEBS has a limited supply of mosquito nets for participants to wear over their heads if they choose. WEBS requests that participants take appropriate precautions to ensure their comfort. Please be prepared for dynamic coastal weather on the Oregon coast. \nCost: There is no cost to attend this program. Donations in support of Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS are welcome! \nThis event is part of the Explore Nature series of hikes\, walks\, paddles\, and outdoor adventures. Explore Nature events are hosted by a consortium of volunteer community and non-profit organizations\, and are meaningful nature-based experiences that highlight the unique beauty of Tillamook County and the work being done to preserve and conserve the area’s natural resources and natural resource-based economy. \nQuestions? Contact info@netartsbaywebs.org \n  \n\n\n\nWhat supplies should participants bring?\n\n\n\n\nWe recommend that each participant brings a reusable water bottle\, sun screen\, close toed shoes that can get muddy\, walking sticks\, bug spray\, and sunscreen. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow long is the drive from the Netarts Community Club to the furthest point of the field tour?\n\n\n\n\nFrom the Netarts Community Club to the furthest point of the field tour is less than five driving miles one way.
