SUMMARY:Hike Netarts Spit: Plovers\, Dunes\, and Beach Finds
DESCRIPTION:Hike Netarts Spit: A guided hike focused on snowy plovers\, dunes\, and fun beach finds with the Bird Alliance of Oregon\, WEBS\, and OPRD! \n  \nJoin Bird Alliance of Oregon and Friends of Netarts Bay – Watershed\, Estuary\, Beach\, & Sea (WEBS) to learn about the threatened Western Snowy Plover and Oregon’s coastal ecosystem while hiking the length of Netarts Spit. We hope to observe Snowy Plovers and other coastal creatures on this 13-mile round trip hike. Please bring your own binoculars\, water\, lunch\, and comfortable attire. Participants can opt to join for a portion of the hike if they do not wish to hike the full distance. This is an out-and-back hike along the same stretch of beachline. \nAccessibility\nDistance: 12-13 miles \nElevation Changes: None \nTerrain: Sandy Beach \nAmenities: Flush and Vault Toilets in the campground (limited access on the beach); water is available in the campground; large parking lot with $5 day use fee \nPublic transit: No public transit \nRest stops and pace: We will move at a slow – medium pace\, stopping frequently to look at birds\, washed-up items in the wrack line\, and other points of interest. We will break for lunch on the beach. \nRSVP: FREE event limited to 15 people. \nWhy Western Snowy Plovers?\nThe Pacific coast population of Western Snowy Plovers has been in decline for several decades due to habitat loss\, human disturbances\, and predation pressures. In Oregon\, the population hit a low of about 50 individuals in the early 1990s. Subsequently\, this species was listed as threatened under the Federal Endangered Species Act in 1993. \nDue to targeted recovery efforts in Oregon\, mostly focused on the south and central coast\, the Snowy Plover has bounced back to around 500 individuals in Oregon and are recolonizing traditional north coast nesting sites. \nPlover Patrol engages citizen scientists to monitor plovers on the north coast\, helping Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and Bird Alliance of Oregon track where Snowy Plovers are and how they are recovering to inform management. \nCost: There is no cost to attend this program. Tax-exempt donations to Netarts Bay WEBS to enable programs like this are encouraged\, but not required. \nAn Explore Nature Partnership cross-listed Event

SUMMARY:Bay Stewardship Day
DESCRIPTION:Bay Stewardship Days offer opportunities to give back and work to maintain our natural areas and restore healthy coastal landscapes. \nOn July 10\, we will be clearing around recent plantings aimed at improving and restoring the habitat within the park. We will also be working to remove invasive English Ivy from trees and shrubs within the park. \nDate: July 10 \nTime: 9:30 am to 12:00 PM \nLend a hand clearing weeds and invasive ivy from recent plantings established at Cape Lookout State Park. During the winter\, WEBS volunteers helped OR State Park staff plant a large variety of native trees\, shrubs\, and plants. Now we need help maintaining these plantings and clearing unwanted plants that may slow their growth. \nIf possible\, we ask participants to provide their own: \n\nwork gloves\nhand pruners\nshovels\nappropriate gear for Oregon Coast in July\n\nThis opportunity is an EXPLORE NATURE take-action event! Explore Nature Series events are hosted by a consortium of volunteer community and non-profit organizations\, and are meaningful nature-based experiences that highlight the unique beauty of Tillamook County and the work being done to preserve and conserve the area’s natural resources and natural resource-based economy. \nLearn more about Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS at www.netartsbaywebs.org or by visiting our social media pages (@netartsbaywebs). \nLearn more about Explore Nature at www.explorenaturetillamookCoast.com. \nWe understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently and we are open to working with anyone that needs additional support. We will adjust this hike to meet the needs of participants\, however\, we have limited capacity. Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your needs and/or find a way for you or your group to have fun participating in our events. \nQuestions: Info@netartsbaywebs.org
