SUMMARY:Youth Writing Workshop: Outside & Unplugged
DESCRIPTION:What is your screen time looking like lately? Take an afternoon to unplug and reconnect with nature during a playful writing workshop. In the company of a cedar grove\, facilitators with Hoffman Center for the Arts and the Lower Nehalem Community Trust will lead youth participants through a series of interactive and imaginative writing prompts to generate stories and bring focus to our shared sense of place. All youth ages 10 -15 are welcome\, no prior experience necessary.\n\n\nOutside & Unplugged: Nature Writing Workshop\nYouth Workshop | Ages 10 – 15\nAugust 3 | 1:00pm-4:00pm\nFree Registration\n*Location:  Elk Meadows Park\, Nehalem\n\n\n*Terrain: Workshop will be held outdoors in an area accessed by level ground; gravel\, tree-rooted paths\, grassy clearings. We’ll be scotch broom busting all afternoon at Elk Meadows Park in Nehalem on Sunday\, April 27th. Join us in celebration of the 55th global day of action on behalf of our planet for a family friendly stewardship event. All ages are welcome! Tools & gloves will be provided (or welcome to bring your own) by co-hosts Lower Nehalem Community Trust and Trail Keepers of Oregon.\nPlease wear sturdy shoes and dress for variable coastal weather. Parking is adjacent to the park and surfaces are gravel\, wood chip and grass. This park is owned by the City of Manzanita and home to Elk\, roaming Cougar and other wildlife. It is stewarded by the Lower Nehalem Trust with the help of the community.\nDirections to Elk Meadows Park: Turn south off of Hwy. 101 onto Bayside Gardens Road. Take the last right turn onto Neptune Way. Park is at the end of Neptune Way on the Left\nNo Registration Necessary

DESCRIPTION:EARTH DAY STEWARDSHIP @ ELK MEADOWS PARK\n\nAPRIL 21 @ 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM\n\n\n\nEARTH DAY ACTION!\nSTEWARDSHIP @ ELK MEADOWS PARK\n\nAPRIL\, 21 2024 @ 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere:  Elk Meadows Park\, at the end of Neptune Way\, in Bayside Gardens\, between Manzanita and Nehalem. (Turn south off of Hwy. 101 onto Bayside GardensRoad. Go to Neptune Way\, the last right turn before you reach the Bay. Go to the end of Neptune Way. The park will be on your left).\n\n\nWhat We’ll Do:  We will mulch\, clean up tree cages and enclosures\, chip paths and remove blackberry and scotch broom\, helping the Park’s native plants survive by removing competition. (Who knows\, you may even see some of the neighborhood citizens after whom the park is named!)\n\nWhat to Expect: We will provide tools and gloves\, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for variable coastal Oregon weather! Parking is adjacent to the park and surfaces are gravel\, wood chips and grass. We will be using hand tools such as loppers\, pruning saws and shovels. There is a raised boardwalk across a small wetland and stairs connecting the upper and lower park areas. This park is owned by the City of Manzanita and stewarded by the Lower Nehalem Trust with the help of the community. There is no restroom on-site but generous neighbors have been known to accommodate if the need arises!  You will be asked to sign the LNCT volunteer waiver to participate in this event.\n\nStatement of Inclusion: We understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently and we welcome collaboration with anyone who needs additional support. We are happy to adjust this event to meet the needs of participants to the extent possible within our capacity.
